My favourite selfcare practice has got to be taking the time, morning and evening, to sit down and do my skincare routine. It grounds me, makes me pause and be in the moment. Starting the day with fresh clean and protected skin while ending the day cleansed, rejuvenated and ready for bed.
Now in my early 30’s, my skincare concerns are still very much centred around my oily skin. If you follow me on Instagram or read my skincare posts here on my blog then you will know my oily skin is prone to clogged pores, breakouts and hormonal skin. It’s so frustrating! The best thing I can do for my skin is to keep a consistent and specific skincare routine. I only like to use ingredients that help oily skin and help to hydrate and repair. I recently tried a new brand, Bioderma. I wanted a gentle micellar water to take on holiday to help with double cleansing and something that was quick and easy (and not wipes) and I really loved it! It really was gentle and worked a treat on my skin.
Then Bioderma kindly sent me some products specifically for my skin type from the Sebium range to try. The products included:
I was so excited to try these products, so when I received them, I slowly started to incorporate them into my daily routine carefully to be sure my skin didn’t react. I’m pleased to say that I had no issues with any of them and I now reach for them every day like they have been in my routine for months! They are also non-comedogenic, paraben free and hypoallergenic.
Here is my review of each product and how I use them in my skincare routine.
This pump bottle is so easy to use. One pump is more than enough for each use and it’s not messy and can be accessed quickly. Applied in circular motions onto wet skin, this cleanser is gentle and non-drying. A gel texture that, when wet, becomes a light foam and purifies the skin. My skin is left feeling soft, clean and my pores seem to have had a good clear out without the added drama of blemishes, which is a win in my books. I really like to use this foaming cleanser in the morning as it really makes my skin feel clean and refreshed and ready for the rest of my morning skincare products. I’m always one for a cleansing facial wash and this one has to be one of the nicest I’ve tried for a while. It retails at £14.10 for a 500ml bottle on Amazon, which I think is such a great and affordable price for such a great quality cleanser.
I stopped using facial wipes in my teens because they really are no good for your skin! After I made the switch to micellar water, I noticed pretty quickly that my skin was less ‘spotty’, less tight and clogged. Facial wipes are really a big no-no for me. Yes, they are affordable, convenient and quick but it’s not worth it babe! This product is the best alternative to any face wipe. Using a cotton pad (I use reusable ones that I picked up from Amazon) soak the middle of the pad with the Micelle solution and gentle sweep over the eyes, face and neck and use as much or as little as you like. It helps to remove makeup, SPF, lipstick and gentle on the eyes to remove eye makeup. Like I mentioned above I like using the Bioderma Micelle Solution in the travel size when I travel because it is so quick and effective as well as being gentle on the skin. I then follow with the facial cleansing gel to double cleanse my skin. This just ensures that every last nasty is removed and the skin is properly cleansed. I like to double cleanse every evening, even when I’m not wearing makeup to make sure I cleanse the skin of my SPF, excess oils and pollution. This Micelle works well with the Bioderma Cleansing Foaming wash. The ultimate duo for cleansing quickly and effectively.
The worst thing about trying to find the right skincare products for oily skin is finding the right texture. It can have all the best ingredients but if the texture is too rich for me then it’s game over. I always like a light lotion or gel texture and something easy for the skin to absorb that doesn’t leave a thick and oily residue because that is just counter productive after using the above two cleansers. I love to use a light moisturiser in the morning to ensure the right balance for my skin. I have really enjoyed using the Bioderma Sebium Intensive Purifying Care lotion because it is so light-weight, easy to apply and absorbs quickly yet makes the skin feel soft and look smooth and bright. My skin seems to really like this moisturiser because I don’t notice any excess oils creeping in throughout the day at all, which is amazing when you have oily skin.
Yes, did you not read this review?? Haha! I’ve honestly loved having these products in my routine. I’m so pleased with how easy they were to include in my daily routine and the results I have been seeing over the past few weeks. The cleansing gel followed by the lotion is a match made in heaven and an effective yet simple duo that you can quickly use to get your skin ready for the day. I will definitely be keeping these products in my skincare routine. If you have oily skin and want a simple, quick but great quality skincare then I recommend you check out these products. Check them out on Amazon or Lookfantastic for some great deals.
