This year the UK has been lucky enough to have had a Summer that has lasted more than a week but as much as I don’t want to be negative about the gorgeous sunshine and the lovely warm days, we really are not used to dealing with this heat as we go about our daily lives.
Those countries with warmer climates are used to dealing and working around the hotter weather, with built in air-conditioning and Siestas but I think we have coped well here in the UK with the unusually hot few months we have be blessed with.
This summer my makeup bag and go-to makeup has been pretty much none exisitant. I spend most weeks not wearing any makeup at all, reaching for my daily SPF facial creams and sun lotions to protect my skin from sun damage and to stop my freckles from multiplying.
On those occasions when I need a little makeup, I have a select few products that have been my go-to and have been great for dealing with this hot weather as well as oily and sweaty skin.
Here are the products that are standing the test of hot weather and giving my skin a healthy and golden glow without leaving my skin blotchy and uncomfortable. This natural summer look is so easy to achieve, which takes the stress out of finding that Summer makeup routine that will last all day.
One thing I can’t stand when the weather is warm is applying a foundation on to my face. With my combination/oily skin a foundation doesn’t last any longer than a few hours before it starts to slide off and become patchy. So I have been reaching for my all time favourite BB Cream by Marcelle. The Marcelle Golden Glow Illuminator BB Cream has a light-weight formula with shine-control but also has a dewy finish for that natural summer time glow. Check out my full review of this amazing product here.
As I have been regularly self-tanning because I hate sunbathing for a tan, I have been needing a bit of bronzer to keep my face looking the same colour as my body. I have been reaching for the Benefit Dew the Hoola Liquid Bronzer that I received last year in a Birchbox. I use this bronzer instead of my usual bronzer as I find that a liquid bronzer goes well with my cream BB cream, keeping that dewy and natural glow, where as a powder seems to crack and slide off on those warmer days.
I use the Benefit bronzer on my natural contour areas, where the sun would naturally catch my face, imagine a figure of 8 on your face and apply small amounts on those areas.
If you are looking for an easy to use and amazing summer glow using a self tan, then check out my review of the St.Tropez Bronzing Water Range.
Having olive skin and a yellow undertone, my under eyes can look quite dark, especially first thing in the morning, thats when I reach for my Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in the shade Light Warm. I use a small amount on a damp beauty sponge to cover those dark circles with out drying out my under eye, because no one wants powder sitting in their fine lines on a hot day!
For a finish on my cheeks I have been loving an old favourite of mine, the Mac Sheertone Shimmer Blush in the shade Sunbasque. This warm orange/bronze blush has a dark coral undertone that is perfect to accompany a light tan to really give a summer time look to those cheekbones. This product is very pigmented so it’s better to build the colour slowly to avoid bright orange cheeks, I also like to use a soft blending eye shadow brush to use this blusher as an eyeshadow too.
To keep this make up routine quick and simple, I always reach for the NYX Tinted Brow Mascara to tame and shape my brows. The mascara like wand is great to brush, lightly colour and hold those brows in place. You haven’t got to worry about shaping or making your brows perfect with this product and this brow product has to be one of my favourite because it is so easy to use and achieve great looking brows with minimal effort.
On my lashes I like to use a light mascara, something that will really make my eyes pop without creating a thick black looking eye. My go to is the Clarins Be Long Mascara in Black. This small, easy to use mascara wand is slightly angled to make it easy to lift the lash from the roots to create length and full lashes. This mascara has a strengthening formula, which encourages the growth of strong and healthy lashes. This Clarins Be Long mascara doesn’t flake or smudge in the hot weather, so if you don’t want a waterproof mascara I highly recommend this mascara instead as it is so easy to remove at the end of the day too.
I honestly love the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector, they have been my favourites for years and I have almost every shade. My go to this summer has been 05 Candy Shimmer. A soft lip gel texture, my lips always feel soft and smooth and as this lip product is light reflecting, my lips look plump and shiny, finishing my natural summer makeup look.
