How & Why I Migrated from Blogger to WordPress

I have been blogging for over 4 years and during this time, I used Google’s Blogger to create my blog. Gradually I became quite frustrated with its’s limitation and the lack of control I had over my blog (your blog doesn’t actually belong to you and can be deleted at any time with no warning).

My blog has grown so much over the past few years and I felt like I wasn’t able to progress much further using Blogger, even after purchasing my own domain and buying an external layout and theme, I still felt I need to change things up a bit!

I finally plucked up the courage to switch to WordPress. I was very nervous about the thought of such a big change, I did lots of research on the benefits but also the risks of such a big migration (4 years worth of blog!)

Before I go on, here a some of the positives you can benefit from switching your blog to WordPress.

PLUGIN’S & MORE THEME OPTIONS

There is no limit to how much you can customise every element within your site layout/template to personalise your blog and have everything exactly as you want it! This includes free (and premium) Plugins, which are effectively ‘apps’ you can add to your dashboard that can enhance and optimise your site, improving the quality of your content.

SEO – SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION

Let’s elaborate on SEO. The Yoast Seo Plugin is a beautiful feature. This plugin gives you full control of your sites SEO, in which you can edit and track all your snippets and internal links. You can also control your Meta Tags (index or no index).

IT’S FREE & OWNERSHIP

With WordPress you have 100% control and full ownership of your site!

POST EDITOR

WordPress is much easier to use than Blogger. It has everything you can want to do on one page and honestly, it has a made writing up blog posts so much easier.

You can easily edit your permalinks, edit ATL/insert images which look clearer and flow better and you can easily categories your posts, adding the relevant tags all on one page.

WAS THE PROCESS EASY?

When I first decided that I wanted to migrate from Blogger to WordPress, I was very anxious about the process. When I did some reading up on the process I panicked, as I’m not the greatest with the technical elements of websites, thankfully that is when I came across Pipdig.
