How & Why I Migrated from Blogger to WordPress

August 28, 2017

Blogger to WordPress

I have been blogging for over 4 years and during this time, I used Google’s Blogger to create my blog. Gradually I became quite frustrated with its’s limitation and the lack of control I had over my blog (your blog doesn’t actually belong to you and can be deleted at any time with no warning).

My blog has grown so much over the past few years and I felt like I wasn’t able to progress much further using Blogger, even after purchasing my own domain and buying an external layout and theme, I still felt I need to change things up a bit!

I finally plucked up the courage to switch to WordPress. I was very nervous about the thought of such a big change, I did lots of research on the benefits but also the risks of such a big migration (4 years worth of blog!)

Before I go on, here a some of the positives you can benefit from switching your blog to WordPress.

PLUGIN’S & MORE THEME OPTIONS

There is no limit to how much you can customise every element within your site layout/template to personalise your blog and have everything exactly as you want it! This includes free (and premium) Plugins, which are effectively ‘apps’ you can add to your dashboard that can enhance and optimise your site, improving the quality of your content.

My favourites are:

Automatic social media sharing

Statistics and tracking of visitors to your site

SEO

SEO – SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION

Let’s elaborate on SEO. The Yoast Seo Plugin is a beautiful feature. This plugin gives you full control of your sites SEO, in which you can edit and track all your snippets and internal links. You can also control your Meta Tags (index or no index).

IT’S FREE & OWNERSHIP

With WordPress you have 100% control and full ownership of your site!

POST EDITOR

WordPress is much easier to use than Blogger. It has everything you can want to do on one page and honestly, it has a made writing up blog posts so much easier.

You can easily edit your permalinks, edit ATL/insert images which look clearer and flow better and you can easily categories your posts, adding the relevant tags all on one page.

Ok, so here we go..

WAS THE PROCESS EASY?

When I first decided that I wanted to migrate from Blogger to WordPress, I was very anxious about the process. When I did some reading up on the process I panicked, as I’m not the greatest with the technical elements of websites, thankfully that is when I came across Pipdig.

I love Pipdig, I have used their services and products throughout my blogging time for my blog themes. I discovered that they offer a WordPress Migration Service , which I purchased on sale at £95. This price included the following:

Additionally, you will need to purchase a service/product from Site Guard ,which helps to support and secure your WordPress Hosting.

If you have your own domain from another site, don’t worry, as this doesn’t affect anything and the process is the same.

I’M SO HAPPY WITH MY MIGRATION

My site was all set up and ready to go within a few day, the service was excellent, with communication via email throughout. Overall, it was the best decision! Migrating from Blogger to WordPress was easy and stress free and I would highly recommend the process if you want an easier way to blog.

Have you been debating the migration? I hope this post has helped in some way.

  1. That must have been a huge decision! I’ve only ever been on wordpress but I can vouch for the thousands of plugins available to customize your site. Makes life a lot easier.

  2. I used Pipdig to migrate my blog from Blogger to WordPress earlier this year and it’s honestly the best blogging decision I’ve made. I’d only ever used Blogger before so I was a little apprehensive but I can’t remember blogging before WordPress now; it’s a revelation. So easy to use and so much freedom.

I’ve been on blogger for three years now and it’s only recently i’ve really seen a lot of people migrate to wordpress. For awhile I was quite cynical of how it could be so much better but after hearing about the success I think I may do the same. I like the idea of being able to have plugins and have more control. Particularly the SEO.
Thanks so much for this blog post, am going to check out pipdig right now actually 🙂

I made the switch myself at the start of this year and couldn’t be happier with the result! You have so much more control over layout and design with WordPress, plus the backend stuff is great too! With all the plugins you really do get so much more, I just can’t believe I didn’t make the switch sooner!

  5. I’ve always stuck with Blogger, as when I was just starting out I found WordPress too complex and difficult to use. However, after reading this post, and seeing so many make the move lately, I’m definitely considering starting afresh and moving over the next few months. My biggest worry was potentially losing all of my posts, but you’ve reassured me so much! x
