Mineral Foundation Review

Finding the right makeup can be hard, especially when it comes to the base. You can choose from a variety of different types of foundations, BB and CC creams or even something as simple as a tinted moisturiser. Everyone’s skin needs are different and unfortunately it can be a long and expensive journey when it comes to finding the perfect products. This is why I love reading product reviews and getting someone else’s opinion on products before I try and buy myself.

I have always had combination and slightly oilier skin, so I always like to chose a liquid foundation that is oil-free if possible. Then to keep my skin looking oil and grease-free all day, I opt for a light mineral powder on top, usually in a translucent shade. This is generally what works for me.

Recently, Proto-col Kindly sent me their Baked Mineral Foundation and as a massive beauty junkie (and one that is still on a beauty spending ban during our home improvements) I was extremely excited to try a brand new product and especially a product I wouldn’t necessarily have picked up myself; a mineral powder and foundation in one handy compact.

PROTO-COL BAKED MINERAL FOUNDATION

So what is Proto-col’s Baked Mineral Foundation all about? This compact mineral foundation has been specially formulated for even the most sensitive of skin. Suitable for all skin types and paraben-free, with ingredients that include Lavender for calming the skin, Rosemary which acts as an anti-inflammatory (as well as an anti-oxidant) along with Green Tea. Sounds like a great product so far doesn’t it?

HOW I APPLIED IT

This mineral foundation is so easy to apply, with both a blender sponge and a stippling brush. Lightly applying this powder allowed me to build the coverage slightly, I always think this is best when applying both liquid and powder foundations as you have more control on how much you are applying to the skin, helping to create an even coverage.

I was sent two shades, Dover and Tuscan, Dover being the fairest and Tuscan having a warmer tone, which is great for the Summer months. Generally, I try not to wear too much makeup and a lot of the time I don’t wear any at all. So when I first tried this product I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to apply and how well it blended onto my skin. I made sure to moisturise well before hand so my skin was well hydrated, as I am always conscience powders make my skin look dry. Check out my morning skincare routine here to see how I keep my skin soft and hydrated.

COVERAGE & FINISH

I found that this foundation is a light coverage that helps to even my complexion. My skin looked and felt like I wasn’t wearing any make up but it had a gentle glow from the light refracting Mica that is within this product to help minimise the appearance of fine line and open pores. This is great for me as inevitably, as I am nearing the age of 30, those little fine lines seem to be creeping up on me!

I loved the way my skin looked and felt and as the day went on, the foundation seemed to oxidate slightly and my skin looked radiant and healthy.

WHAT I THOUGHT OF PROTO-COL BAKED MINERAL FOUNDATION

The Proto-col Baked Mineral Foundation has restored my faith in mineral powder foundations. I now have an alternate to liquid foundations for those days where I need a little makeup but don’t want to over do it. This foundation allows my skin to breathe and it is refreshing to wear something so light on my skin. For the price of £27.95, this product would last for ages as you don’t need a lot to a achieve a natural makeup look.

I love makeup that looks like you’re not wearing makeup.

  2. The powders look really pretty, I’d probably use them as a setting powder over a tinted moisturiser or a light foundation myself because I’m not a big fan of powder foundation on its own x
