A few months ago Dermalogica invited me to their first Skinfluencer Skin Fitness Day at Dermalogica HQ. If you follow me over on Instagram you may have seen my Insta Stories from the event, if you haven’t I do have a highlight story saved if you want to check it out.
During this fun-filled day of health and beauty, we was offered a personalised skincare prescription with one of their Skincare Specialists, my specialist was Jessica. This was a great opportunity to talk to her about my current skin concerns and the products that I have currently using in my routine. After a quick but thorough skin analysis Jessica could see what problems my skin was having and started recommending me a handful of products which she then showed me while applying the products to my face as a little pamper to get to know the products that she was recommending for my skin.
My main concerns with my skin was congested pores which left me dealing with bumps and blemishes under and on my skin. I was also suffering with dehydrated skin which was leaving fine lines around my mouth and eyes. Jessica kindly wrote down her recommendation and after the event the lovely PR girls kindly sent me a handful of products so I continue trying them at home.
The products included the following:
Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner
Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque
Dermalogica Age Bright Clearing Serum
Over the past couples of months I have been incorporating these products into my daily routine. My problem was one I knew I had to re evaluate my skincare. As a beauty blogger I am very lucky to receive some amazng products from amazing brands but it got to a point where I think I was using too much and lost focus of what my skin needed not just using products for the sake of it. I took a step back and listened to my skin and my first point of call was to decongest my pores and focus of keeping my skin clear and protected.
I cut my routine back down to the basics, this included:
Once I got back into a good routine I started slowly incorporating some skincare acids like Glycolic acid and AHA/BHA blends products a couple of times a week.
These Dermalogica products fit in seamlessly into my skincare routine and have joined the small collection of Dermalogica products I have already been using. Check out these products here to see what other products I love from this brand.
The best thing about this product is that it is a spray, a light facial toner that instantly hydrates and refreshes the skin. I have been reaching for this toner everyday, especially in the morning after cleansing to really wake up and hydrate my face. This facial toner has moisture-binding humectants to lock in moisture keeping the skin hydrated all day. When you first spray this toner on to your face you can see the little bubbles of water absorbing and protecting the skin, I usually give this a minute or two to absorb into the skin before continuing with my routine. With soothing Lavender, Balm Mint and Arnica, this product has really helped with calming my skin as well as hydrating it, which really does make my skin look and feel smooth and soothed. I have used a few spray toners this year and I have to say this one has the best spray, it showers you with hydration (in a good way). With every spray you get just the right amount of toner on your skin, not like other toners that give you a minimal mist, a few sprays is all you need for your whole face and neck area. The Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner is also a great product to use throughout the day to refresh your skin, especially after a workout or swim.
The Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque, is definitely a good mask to have in the bathroom. I’ve been using this weekly now for the past couple of months and some evenings as an overnight mask to keep my skin hydrated and plump, especially as the colder weather has now set in. This light and soothing mask is so easy to apply and just as easy to wash off. After cleansing, I pat the skin dry with a towel and apply a 10p size amount over my face, eyes and neck evenly and leave for 10 minutes. If I leave it on over night I just follow my morning routine as normal, starting with a facial wash cleanser to remove the excess mask and continue with my normal routine. If I am using this product as a quick pick me up mask, after ten minutes, I use a muslin cloth in warm water to gentle remove it, pat my skin dry and continue with the Muli-Active Toner. This mask has the wonderful Hyaluronic Acid with Tomato Seed lipids (not recommended if you are allergic to tomatoes) to replenish, hydrate and protect the skin for that healthier looking natural glow.
The Age Bright Clearing Serum sounds like a dream doesn’t it?! For someone with combination/oily skin prone to spots, any product that says it clears the skin is one I have to try. This two-in-one serum helps to clear spots and reduce any new breakouts from appearing as well as providing a reduction in the visible signs of aging. Win win right?! This serum is light in texture, almost like water, used with a pipette to control how much you use whether it is a small amount for targeted areas or for all over use. With ingredients like Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide to help clear and brighten the skin, this surprising refreshing serum is gentle enough for daily use. My main problem areas for congested pores are the forehead, centre of my face and chin are (t-zone), I apply a few drops onto my fingers tips and gentle sweep from the centre of my face outwards and then a few patting motions to seal the serum onto those areas. I use the Age Bright Clearing Serum at least 4 times a week morning/evening especially at that time of the month when my skin would flare up because of hormones. After using this product for some time, I have noticed less congestion in the usual areas and have had less breakouts. This gentle, non-sticky and refreshing serum definitely does what it says on the tin! My skin looks clearer, smoother and has a natural looking glow!
The Dermalogica Calm Water Gel is a perfect daily moisturiser if you are looking for something light. This moisturiser is a weightless water-gel that instantly refreshes and calms the skin, it is not clogging too rich to cause any product build, especially for those of us that have an oilier skin to start with. This texture is so light and easily absorbing which allows the skin to breathe. This gel hydrates the skin with Cactus Pear Extract and helps to keep the skin from drying out, as well as creating a barrier against environmental factors like pollution and the weather. We don’t always think about the extremes we put our skin through even by just stepping out the front door from a warm home to a cold and windy morning. Our skin reacts and can instantly become dehydrate, lack radiance and these can lead to premature ageing of the skin. As someone with an oilier skin, finding products to help with oil control and hydrate without drying the skin is very hard to find but Dermalogica have definitely nailed it with this moisturising gel.
At the time of having my skin analysed/checked it was feeling tired, stressed and congested. I was using so many products, even though they were suited to my skin type and skin concerns it was all becoming a bit too much for my skin. By taking a step back and re-evaluating my skins needs and the routine I was following, I was able to move forward with my skin. By incorporating these four Dermalogica products I have finally got to a place where I feel happy with my skin again. They have become staples in my collection and compliment my other skincare favourites perfectly. My skin looks and feels less congested, the skin tone is more even and smoother to look at and to the touch and it just makes me feel so happy to have better looking skin thanks to Deramlogica.
