My favourite thing to do after I’ve booked a holiday is to write lists! I love a list! I write a list of what I need to pack, what I need to buy and what I need in my skincare and makeup bag. The skincare and makeup list then involves a further list, after some research into what products I need to purchase and add to my summer beauty collection. I take a good look at what I want my AM and PM routine to look like as I don’t want to over pack (easily done though, right?!) and to only take what I need.
So, I thought I would share these in a few blog posts starting with my makeup bag and later what body care and skincare I like to travel with.
I’m not one to wear makeup during the day on holiday. I don’t like it; I feel hot and sweaty enough that it just makes me feel yuck and unattractive so I don’t see the point. My oily skin and open pores do not appreciate it either as I’m already prone to spots and clogged pores, so I stay clear in the day and just focus on reapplying my sunscreen.
However, when it comes to the evening, I do like to apply a little makeup, keeping my routine easy and my makeup light and glowing. After a day in the sun, when the temperature probably hasn’t dropped that much going into the evening, I’m still conscious of my skin and want to keep my skin feeling good. A good skincare routine is always essential regardless to whether or not you will be applying makeup and especially if you are going to put on a little makeup. I like the idea of wearing makeup in the evening as I like to feel a little more done up to enjoy the sunset and dinner and enjoy my evening. I don’t like anything heavy; I don’t use any foundation on holiday for this reason, this is why I always make sure to pack the essentials for a glowy, natural makeup look.
Like I’ve already mentioned, I don’t like to wear foundation on holiday. My go -to will always be a BB or CC cream and over the past couple of years my favourite has to be the BY TERRY Brightening CC Serum. I find myself reaching for this product over any of my other bases. It’s been a game changer for me. I’m currently on my third bottle! This CC serum is so light-weight and applies so easily onto the skin, it’s definitely my number one choice for my holiday makeup bag. My skin is quite freckly and can be prone to some redness (I use a 50+ sunscreen and keep my face out of the sun), this redness is from where my skin gets quite oily and hot. This CC serum is so good at to even my skin tone, enhancing a brighter and more radiant complexion and makes my skin look and feel so healthy.
I also like to take on holiday with me, a concealer, because I always have dark circle because of the colour of my skin and also concealer is handy for those little blemishes and cover ups needed in the evening when you want to look your best. My all-time favourite is the NARS Cream Concealer in Custard. I literally believe these liquid concealers are never ending as they last for such a long time because you only need a smidge and it blends into the skin flawlessly, giving the skin a natural look.
I then like to have a bronzer to add a little warming contour to my cheekbones and jawline using the Urban Decay Beached Bronzer in Bronzed and a little highlight on those areas where the sun naturally catches the skin like the tip of the nose and top of the cheekbones. Finally on the base I do like the idea of a pinch of colour on my cheeks and to keep things easy breezy I love the PIXI Beauty, On the Glow Blush in Juicy, a beautiful orangey-coral cream blush that is perfect to easily blend onto any part of the face.
For my eyes and brows, I like to keep it simple. I like to have choices, however. I like to have one eyeshadow palette that has a variety of colours. I can go with the flow without the pressure of selecting certain shades to take away with me. This way I can choose between the nude natural life or a pop of colour if I’m feeling exotic. I keep my brows groomed, brushed and set with the NYX Control Freak Clear Eyebrow Gel and finish with my all-time favourite Benefit They’re Real! Mascara in Black. This mascara ticks all the boxes for me. It applies beautifully and easily adding volume and lift to my lashes, it is contact-lens safe, it doesn’t flake or smudge, yet it is easy to remover with a balm cleanser and eye makeup remover. It’s always my favourite to take on holiday!
For the lips, I also like options. I mean how can you not want lippy options?! Again, I like a variety of colours. I also like to have a variety from lipsticks, lip-gloss and lip balms to keep my lips hydrated and full of colour. Nudes and corals are my summer favourites and find these shades go better with my olive skin when tanned.
Of course, no matter what makeup you use or how much you like to wear, nothing can substitute a good skincare routine to ensure your skin stays clean, hydrated and protected.
